It increases their vascular resistance and in turn, increases the work the heart has to do to pump blood throughout the body and results in higher BP.
GENDER. Men are at greater risk for cardiovascular and renal disease than are age-matched, premenopausal women. But, women are more likely to develop high blood pressure after the age of 65. Also, important to note, that one study found that transgender women who take hormones were more than twice as likely to have a stroke and deep vein clots compared to cisgender men and women. The sad thing, that in many cases transgender individuals, don’t engage in preventive care at the same rate as cisgender people, primarily because they fear discrimination or lack resources and easy access.
Being INACTIVE. Lack of exercise raises the risk of high BP. Especially if at work you do not move a lot, for example sitting at the office all day. Our body needs to move. Movement affects everything, from circulation to digestion to metabolism to immunity. With movement, our bodies regulate hormone activity, detoxify and respire. We know how hard sometimes it is to make yourself to move, but once you managed to do that you can be sure that you can do that second and third time.
Bad HABITS. Smoking, alcohol and malnutrition are three things that should be changed if you care about your health. Smoking causes the blood vessels to narrow and reduces the blood’s oxygen content, so the heart pumps faster to compensate, causing an increase in blood pressure. Drinking high amounts of alcohol can dangerously raise blood pressure and increase the risk of heart failure, stroke, and irregular heartbeat. A diet which is high in fats and salt leads to a high risk of hypertension. You can see that these three things play a huge role in your health’s wellbeing.
STRESS. We see and hear this word everywhere: on TV, on the radio, on the ads, the list could go on and on. The main thing that we should understand about stress, that it is our reactions.
