CBD (cannabidiol) benefits are one of those things that gets a lot of attention in recent years. It looks like it keeps growing and getting better known by people who have lost hope and can’t get help elsewhere, or someone who wants to live a healthy life with no stress in this busy, fast-changing world.
Today we want to discuss 3 CBD benefits for our brain, that can help us to look at our life from a different angle.
1. CBD has an Anxiolytic effect
It means, that CBD can reduce anxiety. Anxiety nowadays is getting more common. The figures show that Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S. It affects 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year. Up to 50% of chronic sick leaves are due to depression/anxiety in Europe.
Important to know, that Anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events. Knowing the roots of your problem can help loads in getting better.
Medical trials are the best proof to show people, what CBD can do. In addition, it can show you how to step by step build your life back.
The First study
Healthy volunteers were speaking for a few minutes in front of a video camera. At the same time, the subjective state of anxiety and heart rate, blood pressure, skin conductance (the degree to which an object conducts electricity) were recorded. Notably, volunteers demonstrated that CBD relieved anxiety induced by the SPST. The group of SAD (social anxiety disorder) patients treated with Cannabidiol had lower anxiety levels in the performance. They felt lower anticipation phases of the test. Also, lower negative self-assessment scores and fewer symptoms like a fast heartbeat or higher blood pressure compared with SAD patients who received a placebo.
The second study
It was a test of public speaking in a real situation (TPSRS). Each volunteer had to speak in front of a group composed of the other participants. This trial has revealed that the dose of 300mg of CBD reduced personal anxiety. On the other hand, people who had taken doses of 100 and 900 mg, didn’t have any changes. This means, that CBD dosage is really important.
You can find many more clinical studies to prove how Cannabidiol can help to relieve anxiety. There are even more real-life stories, which shows that CBD sometimes can demonstrate surprising results. As a matter of fact, CBD benefits can have the same results for our loved four-legged, furry family members.
2. Antipsychotic-like effects of CBD
Sadly, but this year about 1.5 million people will hear the diagnose for schizophrenia around the world. In the United States, this means about 100,000 people. This translates to 7.2 people per 1,000. In other words, about 21,000 people within a city of 3 million who are likely to be suffering from schizophrenia.
Alarming, but the fact that must be known, that males reach a single peak of vulnerability for developing schizophrenia between the ages of 18 and 25 years. In contrast, female vulnerability peaks twice. The first between 25 and 30 years, and then again around 40 years of age.
The first report
It was published in 1995 by Zuardi and colleagues was of a schizophrenic patient treated with CBD. In this case, female patient with severe side effects from conventional antipsychotics was treated. She was given up to 1,500 mg/day for 4 weeks. The results were a significant reduction in the positive and negative Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale symptom scores.
Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale is a scale which a doctor or researcher may use to measure psychiatric symptoms. For example, depression, anxiety, hallucinations and unusual behaviour. Each symptom is rated 1-7 and depending on the version between a total of 18-24 symptoms are scored.
The second report
This report investigated schizophrenia patients who were treated with CBD for 14 days. It was a placebo-controlled study. In two weeks CBD impressively reduced psychotic symptoms compared to a starting point. After all, there wasn’t a huge difference between placebo and CBD as was expected.
The third study
This trial was more recent. People used 1,000 mg per day. It revealed that CBD does not appear to depend on dopamine receptor antagonism. This is very important, as CBD might be a new class of treatment for psychotic disorders.
Clearly, Schizophrenia is not the most common disease, but it changes lives. Not only for the patients but for people who care about them too. Introducing CBD benefits to more people who suffer from psychotic disorders, might help to support them along this rough way and ease the journey to tomorrow.
3. Anti-oxidative, Anti-inflammatory and Neuroprotective actions of CBD
Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals. In fact, leading to chain reactions that may damage the cells of organisms. Cannabidiol is an anti-oxidant and it can terminate these chain reactions.
There is both anecdotal and clinical evidence to show the effectiveness of cannabinoids. CBD molecule is very fascinating, as it keeps revealing more benefits after all the different trials. The power of nature, in this case, is undeniable. CBD does normalize glutamate homeostasis. Glutamate is a powerful excitatory (causing) neurotransmitter. Nerve cells release it in the brain. It is responsible for sending signals between nerve cells, and under normal conditions, it plays an important role in learning and memory.
More help from CBD
By the same token, CBD can reduce oxidative stress and weaken glial activation and the occurrence of local inflammatory events in our brain. Glia or glial cells or neuroglia are non-neuronal cells in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system. They maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and provide support and protection for neurons.
Many human diseases intimately involve Inflammation and oxidative stress. Furthermore, there was a recent study by Juknat et al. This study strongly demonstrated the existence of notable differences in the genes that were altered by CBD in inflammatory conditions. The substantial and well‐documented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties of Cannabidiol have prompted researchers to test its effects in models of neurotoxicity and neurodegenerative disorders. This keeps bringing great results from animal-based clinical trials.
Early human reports showed a dose‐related improvement in parkinsonian patients treated with oral doses of CBD. They were using from 100 to 600 mg per day over a 6‐week period. Researchers noted that people felt improvement ranging from 20% to 50%.
The growing number of evidence gives us hope, that hemp, in particularly CBD benefits can help us naturally take care of our lives. Life might get hard at some point, but knowing how to leave stress and anxiety behind is important. Don’t keep it to yourself, always share your thoughts and feelings with your family, friends or even your furry friends. Even a hug sometimes can change someone’s day. A hug that lasts at least 20 seconds reduces the harmful, physical effects of stress, including its impact on your blood pressure and heart rate. Don’t forget to hug your loved ones, because you have the power to heal.
